Help - Optimizing images before uploading.

Optimizing your images, in terms of both filesize and image quality can greatly enhance your uploading experience. This is true on MovingDocs.com as well as other websites that require image uploading.

You can do so in many image/photo editing programs such as Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, or countless others.

First off, you can find out detail information of an image by simply looking at the file details in any file manager.
On a PC, in Windows Explorer, you might see something like this :

On a Mac, you might use the Finder to check file details :

One important thing to rememeber for web quality images, is that monitors can only display 72dpi resolution. This is unlike for print, when you're normally dealing with resolutions of 300dpi or more. So, when you're optimizing your image for web viewing, you can set your resolution acccordingly.

Another good thing to keep in mind is that image filesize does not necessarily go hand in hand with the width and height of an image. For example, an image 500 pixels wide by 500 pixels in height, can vary greatly in filesize depending on whether it is saved at 300dpi or 72dpi.

As an example, we'll optimize an image in Photoshop CS3 :

1. Open the image in Photoshop.

2. From the "Image" menu option, select "Image size". You will see the current image dimensions as well as the resolution of the image. Make sure the Resolution is set to 72dpi. If not, just type it in. If you do change the resolution, notice the width and height dimensions, as they will also change.

3. When the image filesize and dimensions meet your needs, save the image and use this new image to upload to your site.

So, save yourselves uploading headaches and optimize your images!
